Outreach/Missions
Welcome to our Outreach and Missions Page!
We strongly believe that church does not exist for itself or for a building. Church exists to Love God and Love one another.
In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Jerusalem is our town of Parrish.
Judea is our region consisting of Manatee County and the State of Florida.
Samaria is our nation.
The ends of the earth is, well, the whole earth.
We are privileged to have opportunities in all these areas.
Every day we witness through our lifestyle in our town of Parrish and in Manatee County. We also serve the community with a Thrift Cottage that offers clothing, furniture and household items at reasonable prices allowing area residents to purchase items not affordable at retail price. We also help through our Food Ministry.
Mission & Outreach events include:
On October 22nd, Pastor David led a group from our church to Cuba. We visited our Sister Church, The Tabernacle of Anointing in Camaguey. While there we re-established our relationship with their congregation and their new pastor Miguel Arango. We asked the people of Parrish United Methodist to give toothbrushes, razors, and vitamins. We are asking each member of our church to help us pay for travel expenses as we will be planning another trip for 2008. Please make checks out to Parrish United Methodist and write Cuba in the memo line. Please begin to pray for us as we prepare to send Christ’s Love down to our sister church.
Pastor David and our Youth Group experienced a Homeless Mission in Daytona Beach with Halifax Urban Ministries, March 26 - 28. (www.halifaxurbanministries.org) Thirteen of us spent three days tasting what it is like to be homeless. We experienced and learned first hand what it is to live without knowing where your food will come from, not having showers or personal hygiene products, no cell phones or electronics, walking as our only mode of transportation, and having to stand on the streets with signs as people in cars go by, etc. The Lord spoke to each of our hearts through this experience, and we came away better equipped to minister to the homeless in our community. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this experience possible through your prayers and funding. On Sunday, April 1st during the Contemporary Service Pastor David and two of our youth shared what God did in our hearts during this time. If you would like a recorded copy of that service please contact the office at 776-1539.
